Scarlet Knights Place 11th at Colonial Intercollegiate

Williamsburg, Va. - The Rutgers women's golf team placed 11th overall with a 699 (361-338) total at the Colonial Intercollegiate, played September 17-18, at the Jamestown Course at Williamsburg National Golf Club. Freshman Daley Owens (Taylorsville, Utah) paced the Scarlet Knights in her first collegiate event, carding a 174 (89-85) on the par 72, 6,279-yard course.
The Intercollegiate marked the first tournament of the season for Head Coach Maura Ballard's young squad. The squad features five freshman and just one senior on its eight-player roster.
Freshman Jeanne Waters (Sayville, N.Y.) and senior Jen Rudy (Berlin, Conn.) both finished one position behind Owens, tying for 58th with 175 totals in the 63-player field.
Freshman Terry Grandis (East Patchogue, N.Y.) and junior Stephanie Yastrub (Lake Grove, N.Y.) comprised the rest of the Scarlet scorecard, finishing tied for 60th and 62nd, respectively.
Rutgers combined to register 58 pars and four birdies in the tournament.
Longwood won the 11-team Intercollegiate with a 606 (306-300) score, five strokes better than second place Florida Atlantic (295-316=611). Wofford (616) finished in the show position, while both Boston College and Richmond tied for fourth with 619 totals. Longwood's Mary Carmody won the individual title with a one under-par 145 (73-72).
The Scarlet Knights return to the links at the Penn State Invitational, which tees-off on Sunday, September 30 in University Park, Pa.
