PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Former Rutgers football standout wide receiver and return specialist Willie Foster (Miami, Fla.) has signed a professional contract with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League (CFL).
The 5-9, 170-pound Foster was regarded as one of the top return specialists in the nation during his career with the Scarlet Knights. He was named the BIG EAST Conference Special Teams Player of the Year in 2005.
Foster ranks third on the school's all-time kickoff return yardage list with 1,553 yards. He also ranks third on Rutgers' all-time kickoff returns list with 70 kickoff returns and fifth on the school's all-time punt return yardage list with 444 yards.
In 2006, Foster returned 18 kickoffs for 370 yards and a 20.6-yard average. He also had 14 punt returns for 127 yards and a 9.1-yard average. He also had one reception for seven yards. His 504 total yards that season ranked third among all Rutgers players. He helped the Scarlet Knights win their first bowl game in program history as RU defeated Kansas State, 37-10, in the Texas Bowl.
In 2005, Foster became Rutgers first return specialist since 1980 to return a punt and a kickoff for a touchdown in the same season. He also had eight receptions for 129 yards and was credited with four rushes for 21 yards.
"Willie Foster is an exciting player who will augment both our receiving corps and our special teams," said Bombers G.M. Brendan Taman. "His presence will give us some valuable depth in both of those areas."
