Rutgers Wrestling Competes in Wilkes Open

WILKES BARRE, PA. - Several members of the Rutgers wrestling program, under the guidance of first-year head coach Scott Goodale, competed unattached in the Wilkes Open on Dec. 28, 2007, in Wilkes Barre, Pa. The Scarlet Knights were led by junior Matt Pletcher (Eastampton, N.J.) who finished first in the 165-pound weight class, defeating University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown's Kyle Keane 3-0 in the championship.
Three other Scarlet Knights reached the semifinals of their respective weight classes, including Chris Norrell (Phillipsburg, N.J.) in the 157-pound weight class, Keith Dobish (Lodi, N.J.) in the 184-pound class, and DJ Russo (Netcong, N.J.) in the heavyweight division. Sophomores Jack Barrett (Metuchen, N.J.) and Kellen Bradley (Newton, N.J.) each reached the quarterfinals of the 149-pound weight class.
The Scarlet Knights return to the mat on Jan. 4 in a home doubleheader when they face Wagner and Lock Haven at the College Ave. Gym, starting at 3:00 p.m.
