PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers University women's basketball team, riding a 10-game winning streak, will look to remain perfect in BIG EAST play as the Scarlet Knights face Cincinnati on Tuesday evening. Tip-off at Fifth Third Arena is set for 7:00 p.m. and the contest can be heard on WRSU.
Fifth-ranked Rutgers (15-2, 5-0) won its ninth consecutive home game Sunday afternoon, topping Louisville 70-57 to remain unbeaten in league action. Senior guard Matee Ajavon (Newark, N.J.) exploded for a season-high 23 points, moving into 10th place on the RU all-time scoring list. Junior Kia Vaughn (Bronx, N.Y.) also set a season-high in scoring with 15 points.
Cincinnati (10-7, 1-4) has lost three straight conference games, including an 86-49 decision at Connecticut on Saturday. The Bearcats are led by Kahla Roudebush, who is averaging 16.4 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.
Rutgers leads the series with Cincinnati, 2-0. RU won the first meeting, 64-51 on Jan. 3, 2006 in Cincy and dropped the Bearcats, 85-43 last season (2/3/07) at the RAC. In the game, all five starters scored in double-digits.
The top-two minute leaders in the league face off on Tuesday. Cincinnati's Jill Stephens leads the BIG EAST in minutes played, averaging 38 per game. Rutgers guard Epiphanny Prince is second logging 36.12 minutes per game. The two squads are the only two teams in the league to have three players ranked in the top-nine in the category. In addition to Prince, Ajavon is seventh (32.31) and Essence Carson is ninth (31.50).
This is RU's first trip back to the state of Ohio since its magical run to the Final Four in Cleveland (220 miles away) last April. Sophomore Myia McCurdy returns home on Tuesday. McCurdy was an all-state selection out of Winton Woods H.S. located in Forest Park, just north of the city.
