Rutgers Gymnastics Powers Past Temple, 187.525-185.325

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers gymnastics team earned its second-straight dual meet win and 11th straight victory over local rival Temple, besting the visiting Owls 187.525-185.325 on Wednesday evening at the Livingston Recreation Center.
The win improved the Scarlet Knights' record to 6-3 on the season, while Temple dropped to 1-7. The unbeaten streak against the Owls dates back to the 2003 season.
With Rutgers holding a slim 93.700 - 93. 350 edge at the halfway mark of the meet, the Scarlet Knights used strong late performances to pull away. Senior Stephanie Pannick (Archbald, Pa.) came up big on the balance beam, tying for first place with Temple's Katie Canning with a 9.725. SophomoreLaura Sevarino (Cheshire, Conn.) recorded a season-high on the beam with a 9.550 performance to place fourth.
In the floor exercises, Sevarino took first with a 9.725 and freshmanMaddie Zwiebel (Bridgewater, N.J.)came in fourth with a 9.450. JuniorLatara Northcutt (Snellville, Ga.) posted a season-high on the vault with a 9.750, tying for first place with Sevarino.
Pannick also took the uneven bars with a 9.625 and teammateTiffany Schramm (Orange County, Calif.)finished fourth with a 9.350.
In the all-around, Sevarino edged Temple's Desiree Meredith by a score of 37.675-34.650.
Rutgers returns to action on Friday, traveling to Pittsburgh to take on the BIG EAST rival Panthers at 7 p.m.
