Scarlet Knights In Sixth After Opening Round of RU Invitational

Piscataway, N.J. - The Scarlet Knights are in sixth place with a 325 score after the opening round of the 2008 Rutgers Women's Invitational, played Friday under sunny skies at the Rutgers University Golf Course. RU is eight strokes behind tournament-leader Lehigh, which posted a 317 on the par 72, 6,034-yard course to lead the 16-team event.
Freshman Kristina Lee (Haddonfield, N.J.), who has paced RU in every event thus far this fall season, was the leader once again. She carded a 78 on day one and is tied for 11th in the 91-player field. Sophomore Jeanne Waters (West Sayville, N.Y.) also finished in the top 20 (t-20th) with an 81. Freshman Lizzy Carl (Mendota Heights, Minn.) carded an 82, freshman Brooke Stepanek (Guilford, Conn.) shot an 84, and sophomore Daley Owens (Taylorsville, Utah), turned-in an 87.
The Scarlet Knights are sponsoring two squads (Scarlet, White) for the tournament. The White team posted a 336 total and was comprised of Anne McNiel (Jacksonville, Fla.), Elisa Mateer (Marmora, N.J.), Sachiye Day (Alhambra, Calif.), Stephanie Yastrub (Lake Grove, N.Y.) and Lauren Heiba (Bridgewater, N.J.). Mateer shot an 81 to pace the White. Yastrub and Day each registered an eagle on Friday.
Livia Almada of Lehigh tops the leaderboard after day one with a two-over par 74. Lisette Vitter of Penn and Corrin Conroy of Albany are tied for second place at 75.
The Invitational resumes tomorrow with second and final round. First tee is at 9:00 a.m. Another day of warm temperatures and sunny skies is expected. RESULTS
