PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers women's golf team took eighth place in the 2008 Rutgers Women's Invitational, held Friday and Saturday at the par 72, 6,034-yard Rutgers University Golf Course in Piscataway, N.J. Under sunny and cloudless skies, Boston College finished in first with a team score of 629.
"It was nice to see all of our golfers play so well in our home event," said head coach Maura Ballard. "With such a young team, the future looks very bright for us. We had a great turnout and the weather was perfect, so it was a very nice tournament."
Freshman Kristina Lee (Haddonfield, N.J.) has paced RU in every event thus far this fall season, and the RU Invitational was no exception. She carded a team-best 157 (78-79), tying her for ninth-place.
Sophomore Jeanne Waters (West Sayville, N.Y.) finished tied for 33rd place with a 165 (81-84). Freshman Lizzy Carl (Mendota Heights, Minn.) carded a 166 (82-84), fellow classmate Brooke Stepanek (Guilford, Conn.) shot a 168 (84-84) and sophomore Daley Owens (Taylorsville, Utah) turned in a 170 (87-83).
The Scarlet Knights sponsored two squads (Scarlet, White) for the tournament. The White team posted a 665 total and was comprised of Anne McNiel (Jacksonville, Fla.), Elisa Mateer (Marmora, N.J.), Sachiye Day (Alhambra, Calif.), Stephanie Yastrub (Lake Grove, N.Y.) and Lauren Heiba (Bridgewater, N.J.). Mateer shot a 160 (81-79) to pace the White.
BC trailed Lehigh by two strokes going into the final round, but was able to come back after shooting a tournament-best 310 on Saturday. Lehigh's Livia Amado had the best individual score with a 147 (74-73).
Rutgers returns to action on Friday, Oct. 17, for the Pro/Co Am Fundraiser at the RU Golf Course. RESULTS
