Rutgers Women's Basketball Holds Annual Media Day

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers women's basketball team held its annual media day at the Louis Brown Athletic Center on Thursday. Returning players and the five newcomers met the media this morning. In addition, the squad and coaching staff posed for their annual team shots.

The Scarlet Knights, selected second in the 2008-09 BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll, return seven letterwinners and three starters from a season ago. RU finished the 2007-08 season with a 27-7 record and a 14-2 mark in BIG EAST play. The program picked up its sixth straight 20-win season and 10th 20-win campaign under head coach C. Vivian Stringer.
Rutgers was ranked No. 7 in the final 2007-08 Associated Press Top-25 poll and No. 6 in the end of the year ESPN/USA Today coaches poll.
The Scarlet Knights open play with an exhibition game on Nov. 4 versus Operation Athlete at 7:30 p.m. and then play their second start-up on Nov. 9 versus The Family.
RU begins its season officially on Nov. 14, hosting Saint Joseph's at 5:00 p.m. as part of a doubleheader with the men's team. Rutgers will face 14 teams who qualified for last year's NCAA Tournament this season, including three teams that received the top seed in the tourney.
Rutgers is ranked in a number of preseason polls, including a No. 5 rank by Lindy's, the Sporting News and Women's Basketball Magazine. Slam Magazine and Athlon picked the Scarlet Knights' at No. 10 and No. 11 nationally in their respective preseason polls and the website gballmag.com has RU at eighth. The Associated Press preseason poll is expected to be released on Saturday.
