SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Freshman Amy Zhang (Plano, Texas) continued her stellar play by winning her eighth straight singles match, but the Rutgers women's tennis team fell to BIG EAST rival Syracuse 6-1 at the Drumlins Tennis Center.
Rutgers falls to 10-8 overall and 4-4 in league play, while Syracuse improves to 10-11 and 7-5 in BIG EAST action after winning its fourth straight match.
Zhang, who improves to 16-2 in singles play on the year, picked up a 6-3, 6-4 win over Simone Kalhorn of Syracuse at the No. 2 spot. The freshman has now won eight consecutive matches twice this season, after starting the year on an eight match winning streak.
Although RU dropped the doubles point 2-1, the Scarlet Knights got into the win column at the No. 1 spot. The duo of Katrina Elder-Bush (Boston, Mass.) and Katherine Arlak (Leonia, N.J.) defeated Kalhorn and Jacqelynn Tang 8-4. Syracuse picked up the remaining two doubles victories and swept all but one singles match to capture the 6-1 victory.
