PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers incoming freshman Trevor Melde (Wayne, N.J.) will wrestle in the Canada Cup, set to take place between June 24 and June 29 in Guelph, Ontario. Melde, a 141/149 pounder from DePaul Catholic High School in Wayne, N.J., finished second at 140 in the NJSIAA Championships. InterMat ranks him as the No. 17 overall recruit in the country.
Golf Outing Announced:
The Rutgers wrestling team will host a golf outing at the RU Golf Course on Friday, August 1. The event will benefit the program and give fans the opportunity to meet head coach Scott Goodale and many of the wrestling letterwinners who have been a part of the program's rich history.
The event will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by lunch and awards at 1:30 p.m. Single player fees are $150 while a foursome is $600. All players fees include greens fees, cart fees, lunch receptions and a golfer gift bag. For more information contact the Scarlet R Club at (732) 932-7629.
All the proceeds will benefit the Rutgers wrestling program. In 2007-08, Goodale's first year as head coach, the team finished 11-7, with Lamar Brown (Red Bank, N.J.) and Steve Adamcsik (Chester, N.J.) reaching the NCAA Wrestling Championship. RU welcomes in a 2008-09 freshman class that was ranked No. 3 nationally by W.I.N. Magazine.
