PRINCETON, N.J. – The Rutgers women’s tennis team picked up a singles victory from freshman Morgan Ivey (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.), but the Scarlet Knights fell, 6-1, at Princeton in their first match of the spring season.
Ivey claimed RU’s lone singles victory by downing Princeton’s Sarah Huah in three sets at the No. 5 spot. After dropping the opening set 6-3, Ivey rallied to capture the second in a dominating 6-0 fashion. The freshman continued her stellar play into the third set tiebreaker, picking up the win, 10-5.
Rutgers (0-1) also picked up a victory in doubles action as Polina Zaretser (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Jennifer Holzberg (Easton, Conn.) upended Rebecca Parks and Rachel Saiontz at No. 2 doubles. The Scarlet Knights duo picked up an 8-4 victory, but Princeton won the other two doubles spots to claim the team point.
The Scarlet Knights will next be in action on Feb. 5 at Lehigh. The match is set to begin at 3 p.m.
