Rutgers' Prince Named a Midseason Top 20 Wooden Award Candidate

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers guard Epiphanny Prince (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was selected as a midseason candidate for the Women's John R. Wooden Award, it was announced by The Los Angeles Athletic Club's Women's Wooden Award Committee Thursday evening.
Prince leads the Scarlet Knights and is ranked third in the BIG EAST in scoring, averaging 20.6 points per game. In addition, the junior paces the league in free throw percentage (.861), is fifth in steals (2.3) and second in minutes (35.8). Prince has scored 20-plus points in 11 games, including seven of the last eight. She has shooting 45.2 percent on the season and has drained 26 of the team's 74 3-pointers.
The midseason list is based on individual player performance and team records during the first half of the season. Prince is one of six players representing the BIG EAST, joining Connecticut's Renee Montgomery, Maya Moore and Tina Charles. Shavonte Zellous (Pittsburgh) and Angel McCoughtry (Louisville) are the other two selections to the list from the league.
The 2009 Award ceremony, which will include the presentation of the Men's and Women's Wooden Award winners and the Legends of Coaching Award to Rick Barnes of the University of Texas, will be held at The Los Angeles Athletic Club the weekend of April 12-13.
