
RU Places Third at Rain-Shortened Knights Invitational

BASKING RIDGE, N.J. - The Rutgers women's golf team finished third with a 340 score at rain-shortened the Knights Invitational, played Monday at New Jersey National Golf Club. Freshman Brittany Weddell (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) paced the Scarlet Knights and finished tied for fifth in the 40-player field after carding an 83 on the par-72, 5,901-yard course.
The second-round of the Invitational, slated to tee-off at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, was cancelled due to rain.
Weddell had eight pars on day one and was plus-one in par five scoring.
Juniors Jeanne Waters (West Sayville, N.Y.) and Daley Owens (Taylorsville, Utah) also performed well on Monday to place among the top 10. Waters tied for fifth at 84, while Owens tied for 10th after shooting an 86.
Sophomores Elisa Mateer (Marmora, N.J.) and Lizzy Carl (Mendota Heights, Minn.) comprised the rest of the Scarlet scorecard. They both tied for 13th after registering 87's on Monday.
Host Fairleigh Dickinson posted a 322 to win the eight-team event. Sacred Heart was second with a 338.
FDU's Lisa Warrilow paced the pack, carding a 77 to win the individual crown. Teammates Michele Holzwarth and Eva Mayr tied for second after firing rounds of 78. RESULTS
