Epiphanny Prince Named First Team All-BIG EAST

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers guard Epiphanny Prince (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was selected as a member of the All-BIG EAST First Team is was released by the league office on Thursday afternoon.
It is the second consecutive year the junior has been named to the conference first team. Prince was one of seven unanimous selections, it the vote among the league’s head coaches.
Senior center Kia Vaughn (Bronx, N.Y.) was tabbed honorable mention.
Prince led the Scarlet Knights (18-11) in scoring this season and was third in the league (19.1 ppg). She is ranked second in minutes (36.8 mpg), tied for third in steals (2.5 spg) and fourth in free throw percentage (.826).
The junior guard posted 13 20-point plus games this season, third-best in the BIG EAST. She is ranked eighth among active scorers in the league and currently has the third-longest active double-digit scoring streak (24 games).
Prince also paces the team in assists with 2.6 per game and is third in rebounds, averaging 5.3 per contest.
Vaughn, a second team honoree last season and a first team selection in 2007, is second on the team in scoring (9.6 ppg). She leads the Scarlet Knights in rebounding, collecting 7.1 boards a contest. It will mark the fourth straight year she has accomplished the feat, the first time an RU player has led in rebounding in four straight years since Sue Wicks (1984-88).
Vaughn averaged 18.3 points and 8.3 rebounds in the last three games while shooting 72.7 percent from the field (24-of-33). The Bronx, N.Y. native scored a season-best 24 points, going 10-of-15 from the floor in a 69-59 loss to No. 1 Connecticut on Monday evening in her final regular season appearance at the Louis Brown Athletic Center.
Rutgers, seeded No. 7 in this coming weekend’s BIG EAST Championship, will next see action on Saturday, March 7. The Scarlet Knights will face the winner of the No. 10 Georgetown /No. 15 Seton Hall game at 6:00 p.m.
