Weddell Wins Second Straight New England Championship

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Incoming Rutgers golfer Brittany Weddell (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) carded a 68 at Bretwood Golf Course in Keene, NH on Monday to win her second consecutiveNew England Interscholastic Girls' Golf Championship. Weddell won the event by five strokes.
The Bourne High School senior has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete for the Scarlet Knights beginning in the fall of 2009. She finished third overall at the Championships as both a freshman and sophomore.
"I've always wanted to play college golf,” Weddell told the Cape Cod Times. “I went down and met the girls on the team. We'll travel a lot. It will be exciting."
Weddell has amassed numerous accomplishments during her Prep career, including a victory in the 2008 Rutgers Girls Junior Open. She is a two-time national finalist for both the US Women’s Amateur Public Links and the US Girls Junior tournaments. Weddell also took home the prize of top amateur at the Massachusetts Women’s Open in 2008, where she placed third out of 90 players and shot a 74.
