Rutgers in Eighth Place after Day One of Bison Classic

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Rutgers women's golf team is in eighth place with a 642 total (326-316) after the opening rounds of the Bison Classic, played Saturday at the Bucknell Golf Club. Freshman Brittany Weddell (Buzzards Bay, Mass.), competing in her first collegiate event, carded a 156 (80-76) to pace the Scarlet Knights on day one.
Junior Daley Owens (Taylorsville, Utah) also performed well on the par 70, 5,983-yard course, shooting a 160 (79-81) to sit in 23rd place. Sophomore Kristina Lee (Haddonfield, N.J.) posted a 162 (83-79), junior Jeanne Waters (West Sayville, N.Y.) carded a 164 (84-80) and sophomore Elisa Mateer (Marmora, N.J.) shot a 166 (84-82) to comprise the rest of the Rutgers scorecard.
William & Mary compiled a 595 (294-301) total to take a 29-stroke lead over second place Marshall (624) heading into day two.
The 54-hole Classic concludes tomorrow with an additional 18 holes of golf. Twelve teams are competing in the tournament, which marks the initial event of the fall season for the Scarlet Knights.
