Scarlet Knights Place 9th at Rutgers Women's Invitational

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (October 16, 2010) -The Rutgers women's golf team placed ninth with a 668 (347-321) score at the 2010 RU Women's Invitational, played Friday and Saturday at the Rutgers University Golf Course. Fairleigh Dickinson won the 20-team event with a 642, seven strokes better than second place Bucknell (649).
"Conditions were tough and there was a lot of wind," said Rutgers Director of Golf Maura Waters-Ballard on Saturday."I'm proud of the way our ladies played today. It was a great comeback from yesterday's round."
Despite the continued blustery weather conditions, senior team captain Jeanne Waters (West Sayville, N.Y.) paced the Scarlet Knights, carding a 160 (83-77) on the par 72, 6,034-yard course to finish tied for third. Waters was the co-leader in par three scoring at plus two.
Sophomores Karen Cash (Allendale, N.J.) and Brittany Weddell (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) along with juniors Elisa Mateer (Marmora, N.J), and Lizzy Carl (Mendota Heights, Minn.) comprised the rest of the RU competing five.Cash finished tied for 40thwith 169 (87-82) score in the 113-player field. Mateer finished tied for 47thwith a 170 (87-83), Weddell came in tied for 50thwith a 171 (91-80) and Carl posted a 172 (90-82) to finish tied for 56th.
Gabriella Riber of Sacred Heart captured individual medalist honors with a 155, three strokes better than second place Lisa Warrilow of Fairleigh Dickinson. Five players from five different universities tied for third place by carding 160.
The opening round of the Invitational on Friday was halted due to darkness. It was completed early Saturday before the onset of the second and final round of the 36-hole event.
