Rutgers 16th after Day One of Nittany Lion Invitational

STATE COLLEGE, PA –The Rutgers women’s golf team is in 16th place with at 642 (327-315) team score after the opening day of the Nittany Lion Invitational, played Saturday at the Penn State Blue Course. Senior team captain Jeanne Waters (West Sayville, N.Y.) paced the Scarlet Knights on the par 72, 6,246-yard course, carding a 158 (81-77) to enter Sunday’s final round tied for 49th.
Junior Lizzy Carl (Mendota Heights, Minn.) also performed well in the 17-team event, posting a 159 (78-81) to sit tied for 57th in the 96-player field. Carl led RU in its last event at the Hartford Invitational.
Sophomores Karen Cash (Allendale, N.J.) and Brittany Weddell (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) and junior Elisa Mateer (Marmora, N.J.) comprised the rest of the Scarlet scorecard. Cash is tied for 66th with a 161 (81-80), Weddell is tied for 87th with a 167 (90-77) and Mateer is 94th with a 178 (87-91).
Host Penn State and Western Michigan are tied for the lead with 600 team totals. WMU’s Kaylee Imel paced all individuals through the opening two rounds with a 145 (70-75) effort.
The third and final round of the Invitational tees-off Sunday morning.
