
Rutgers Places 16th at Nittany Lion Invitational

STATECOLLEGE, PA (October 3, 2010) - The Rutgers women's golf team placed 16th with at 961 (327-315-319) team score at the Nittany Lion Invitational, played Saturday and Sunday at the Penn State Blue Course. Junior Lizzy Carl (Mendota Heights, Minn.) paced the Scarlet Knights on the par 72, 6,246-yard course, carding a 235 (78-81-76) to finish tied for 37th.
It marked the second consecutive event that Carl led RU, following the Hartford Invitational.
Senior team captain Jeanne Waters (West Sayville, N.Y.) also performed well in the 17-team event, posting a 236 (81-77-78) to place tied for 41st.
Sophomores Brittany Weddell (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) and Karen Cash (Allendale, N.J.) and junior Elisa Mateer (Marmora, N.J.) comprised the rest of the Scarlet scorecard. Weddell tied for 79th with a 247 (90-77-80), Cash was 86th with a 251 (81-80-90) and Mateer finished 94th with a 263 (87-91-85).
Host Penn State captured the title with a 37-over par 901 (295-305-301). The Nittany Lions were nine strokes better than second place Western Michigan. Fabia Rothenfluh of Rollins College was the individual medalist with a plus-two, 218 (73-73-72) effort.
The Scarlet Knights, under the leadership of Director of Golf Maura Waters-Ballard, return to the links this Friday (October 8) versus Seton Hall at the Rutgers University Golf Course. RESULTS
