
Rutgers Places Fifth at Spider Invitational

MIDLOTHIAN, Va. (November 2, 2010) - The Rutgers women's golf team placed fifth with a 962 (324-317-321) score at the Spider Invitational, played Monday and Tuesday at Independence Golf Club. Senior team captain Jeanne Waters (West Sayville, N.Y.) paced the Scarlet Knights, carding a 229 (77-77-75) to finish sixth in the 54-player field.
Waters posted a tournament-tying best seven birdies in the event. She was also plus six in par four scoring, the third best performance of the tournament.
Sophomore Karen Cash (Allendale, N.J.), juniors Elisa Mateer (Marmora, N.J.) and Lizzy Carl (Mendota Heights, Minn.) and sophomore Brittany Weddell (Buzzards Bay, Mass.), comprised the rest of the RU competing five. Cash was even in par three scoring en route to a 245 (84-81-80) to place tied for 26th. Mateer carded a 246 (84-80-82) to finish 28th. Carl posted a 248 (79-85-84) to place tied for 31st and Weddell turned-in a 253 (84-79-90) to finish 34th.
Ten universities competed in the event, which was hosted by the University of Richmond.
Penn won the tournament with a 902, 30 strokes better than second place Bradley. Penn's Isabel Han captured individual medalist honors with a 220 (72-77-71), three strokes better than teammate Michelle Lee.
The Invitational marked the final event of the fall season for the Scarlet Knights. RESULTS
