
Rutgers Seventh after Day One of Spider Invitational

MIDLOTHIAN, Va. -The Rutgers women's golf team is in seventh place with a 641 (324-317) score after the opening two rounds of the Spider Invitational, played Monday at Independence Golf Club. Senior team captain Jeanne Waters (West Sayville, N.Y.) paced the Scarlet Knights on day one, carding a 154 (77-77) to enter Tuesday's final round tied for ninth place.
Waters posted team best four birdies on Monday.
Sophomore Brittany Weddell (Buzzards Bay, Mass.), juniors Lizzy Carl (Mendota Heights, Minn.) and Elisa Mateer (Marmora, N.J.) and sophomore Karen Cash (Allendale, N.J.) comprise the rest of the RU competing five. Weddell shot a 163 (84-79), Carl (79-85) and Mateer (84-80) both totaled 164 and Cash had a 165 (84-81).
Carl and Cash were both even in par three scoring on the par 72, 6,048-yard course. Ten universities are competing in the event, which is being hosted by the University of Richmond.
Penn paces the field with a 600, 15 strokes better than second place Bradley. Penn's Rui has the individual lead after carding a 145 (72-73) on Monday.
The third and final round of the Spider Invitational tees off at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday. RESULTS
