
Rutgers Wrestling Readies for Season Openers at the RAC

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (November 5, 2010) - Coming off one of the most successful seasons in program history, the Rutgers wrestling team is anxious to get its 2010-11 season underway as it welcomes Sacred Heart and East Stroudsburg to the Louis Brown Athletic Center for a Sunday afternoon double-dual. Both of the RU matches will be broadcast live on KnightVision Broadband via www.scarletknights.com.
In their first matchup of the day, the Scarlet Knights will battle the Sacred Heart Pioneers at 4 p.m. SHU is coming off a season which saw it go 2-20. The Pioneers will be led by a pair of grapplers who finished fourth at the CAA Championships in Anthony Priore (157 pounds) and Paul Schweighardt (285 pounds). SHU also welcomes 125-pounder Billy Chamberlin a transfer from Duquesne who was a 2009 NCAA qualifier. Sacred Heart, who is 2-4 all-time against RU, is coached by Casey Brewster in his third season with the program.
In the second matchup of the day, RU will take on East Stroudsburg at 6 p.m. Redshirt junior Adam Hluschak, a returning NCAA qualifier at 141 pounds, leads a veteran East Stroudsburg University wrestling team into its second season at the Division II level and fourth year under head coach Joey Rivera. RU is 19-11-1 all-time against the Warriors in a rivalry that dates back to 1971.
The Scarlet Knights return nine of 10 starters from last season's squad that went 19-5-1 in dual action. The RU roster also features nine student-athletes (Billy Ashnault, Alex Caruso, Daryl Cocozzo, Joe Langel, Mario Mason, Trevor Melde, Dan Rinaldi, DJ Russo and Scott Winston) with prior NCAA Championship experience.
