Rutgers Tennis Sweeps Lehigh, 7-0

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Rutgers women’s tennis team swept Lehigh, 7-0, Friday at the Lewis Tennis Center. Leading the Scarlet Knights was junior Amy Zhang (Plano, Texas) and senior Katherine Arlak (Leonia, N.J.), who earned wins at No. 1 and No. 3 singles, respectively, and as a pair at No. 1 doubles.
“We played strong, aggressive, consistent tennis today, resulting in a convincing win over Lehigh,” said Rutgers head coach Benjamin Bucca. “With this win, we have momentum going into a big match against ACC foe Maryland this Sunday.”
Zhang defeated LU’s Julie Arthofer - 6-1, 6-0. At No. 2 singles, Jennifer Holzberg (Easton, Conn.) handed Liz Piscitelli a 6-4, 6-1 loss. Arlak pushed past Lehigh’s Stacey Reich (6-3, 6-4) at No. 3 singles.
Maryana Milchutskey (Holmdel, N.J.) defeated Patricia Muething – 6-3, 6-2 – at the No. 4 spot. Rookie Michelle Green (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) beat LU’s Abbey Perl, 6-2, 6-2. At the No. 6 slot, Leonora Slatnick (Austin, Texas) blanked Gena Levengood, 6-0, 6-0.
Arlak and Zhang paired to upend Arthofer and Piscitelli, 8-2, at No. 1 doubles. Holzberg and Slatnick defeated Reich and Muething (8-1) at No. 2 doubles. Completing the sweep, Caitlin Baker (Altoona, Pa.) and Christine Tran (Centreville, Va.) grabbed a victory over Kayla Mrasko-Blank and Perl, 8-2.
The Scarlet Knights will be back in action Sunday for a Valentine’s Day match-up at ACC foe Maryland.
