Rutgers Gymnastics Wins Saturday Home Quad Meet

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (February 13, 2010) –Rutgers gymnastics won its first home quad meet of the season with an overall score of 189.400, defeating Brockport, Cortland and Ursinus on Saturday afternoon at the Livingston Recreation Center. Brockport placed second with a score of 186.550, followed by Cortland in third (182.250) and Ursinus in fourth (181.975).
The Scarlet Knights took the top three spots in three events, sweeping the floor exercise, balance beam and uneven bars. Senior Prishani Seebadri (Wenonah, N.J.), junior Kiah Banfield (Newbury Park, Calif.) and freshmen Jenna Zito (Rockaway, N.J.) and Emma-Rose Trentacosti (Ridgefield, N.J.) each finished or tied for first in their respective events.
In the floor exercise, Zito and Banfield tied for first with a score of 9.675, while senior Laura Sevarino (Cheshire, Conn.) finished in a tie for third with Brockport’s Christina Baggetta, scoring a 9.600.
Rutgers went 1-2-3 in the balance beam as Trentacosti took first with a score of 9.675, followed by Zito in second with a 9.625 and Sevarino in third with a 9.600.
Seebadri paced the Scarlet Knights on the uneven bars, placing first with a score of 9.750. Zito, who won the all-around with an overall score of 37.825, finished third on the bars, scoring a 9.625.
Banfield and Sevarino posted RU’ two highest scores with Banfield taking second with a 9.575, while Sevarino placed third with a 9.550.
The Scarlet Knights will return to action on Friday, Feb. 19, for a road trip at Kent State, where they will compete in a tri-meet against the Golden Flashes and Northern Illinois.
