Rutgers Tennis Returns Home for BIG EAST Match-Up With Georgetown

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Feb. 24, 2010) – Rutgers tennis returns home for the start of a three-game home stand with BIG EAST foe Georgetown this Thursday, Feb. 25 at the Busch Tennis Bubble. Action will start at 11:30 a.m.
RU (3-3, 0-1) dropped two matches over the weekend to Binghamton (6-1) and Cornell (5-2). Junior Amy Zhang (Plano, Texas) andsophomore Jennifer Holzberg (Easton, Conn.) won twice at No. 1 doubles, defeating Lauren Bates and Jillian Santos of BU and Natalia Sanchez and Susan Sullivan of CU. Zhang also won at No. 1 singles, taking down BU’s Bates (7-5, 0-6, 11-9).
Zhang and sophomore Maryana Milchutsky (Holmdel, N.J.) boast a 4-2 record on the season in No. 1 and No. 4 singles, respectively. The top RU doubles pairing has been Zhang and Holzberg, winning three-straight and boasting a 3-1 overall record.
Georgetown (1-2, 0-2) dropped two tough 4-3 decisions over the weekend to Pittsburgh and West Virginia. Against Pitt, GU’s Victoria Sekely and Lauren Greco captured the top two singles matches, but it would not be enough as the Panthers won two doubles matches and three singles match-ups.
Gordie Ernst leads the Hoyas in his fourth year at Georgetown. The former Brown University standout spent four years as an ATP Tennis Professional. As a two-sport athlete with the Bears, Ernst was also drafted by the Minnesota North Stars of the NHL.
