Rutgers Gymnastics Hosts Quad Meet Saturday Night

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (February 26, 2010) – The Rutgers gymnastics team will return home to the Livingston Recreation Center this weekend to host a quad meet with Bridgeport, Southern Connecticut State and William & Mary Saturday at 7 p.m.
The Scarlet Knights scored a 187.925 last time out in a tri-meet at Kent State to place third against the host Golden Flashes and Northern Illinois.
Freshman Nicole Romano (Livingston, N.J.) had season-best scores on the vault (9.625), balance beam (9.525), in the floor exercise (9.700) and in the all-around (38.250) in last Friday’s meet. Fellow freshman Jenna Zito (Rockaway, N.J.) is the lone Scarlet Knight to have competed in the all-around in all eight meets this season. She scored a 37.175 in the all-around at Kent State, including a season-high tying 9.750 on the vault to place third in the event.
Senior Alyssa Lewandowski (Linden, N.J.) is averaging a 9.588 on the vault this season and is coming off a season-best 9.700 score to place seventh in the event at Kent State.
Bridgeport is the top-ranked ECAC team and No. 43 in the nation in all three NCAA divisions. The Purple Knights have won five-straight competitions. They last competed last Saturday in a tri-meet with Yale and Southern Connecticut State, posting a score of 190.700. Freshman Monica Mesalles recorded a school-record 9.900 on the vault in the meet.
Southern Connecticut State last competed last Sunday night in Springfield, Mass. against Springfield and Massachusetts Institute of Technology as the Owls took top honors in the tri-meet with a score of 188.050. Junior Justine Basley captured the all-around in the meet with a score of 37.550.
William & Mary has competed in five meets this season, most recently placing third in a quad meet at the University of Maryland last Sunday. The Tribe scored a season-high 188.175 in the quad meet against the host Terps, Pittsburgh and George Washington. William & Mary was led by sophomore Kristin Milardo, who posted a 9.650 on the vault and junior Jen Stack, who registered a 9.625 on the bars, and junior Dina McNaughton, who scored a 9.650 in the floor exercise, in the meet.
Saturday will be the fourth of five home meets for RU this season. Rutgers will host Towson and Yale in a tri-meet Saturday, March 13 at 1 p.m. The meet will serve as Senior Day as seniors Laura Sevarino (Cheshire, Conn.), Prishani Seebadri (Wenonah, N.J.) and Lewandowski will be honored prior to the meet.
