
Rutgers Tennis Sweeps Fairleigh Dickinson, 7-0

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Feb. 4, 2010) – Rutgers women’s tennis defeated Fairleigh Dickinson, 7-0, Thursday afternoon at the RU Tennis Complex on Busch Campus. Junior Amy Zhang (Plano, Texas) led the charge for the Scarlet Knights, defeating Elmine Botes, (6-0, 6-0) at No. 1 singles and pairing with senior Jen Holzberg (Easton, Conn.) to best Botes and Julija Korshunova, 8-5.
This is a great win for our program,” said Rutgers head coach Ben Bucca. “It lifts our spirits and we are motivated and excited for our upcoming match against Georgetown on Sunday.”
Holzberg also rallied to defeat Korshunova at No. 2 singles (6-7 (9), 6-3, 6-2). Senior Katherine Arlak (Leonia, N.J.) made short work of Julia Prantl at No. 3 singles (6-2, 6-3).
At the No. 4 spot, sophomore Maryana Milchutskey (Holmdel, N.J.) won straight sets to best Egzona Morina (6-3, 6-0). Rookie Michelle Greene (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) continued the streak with a win over Ksenia Chernyshova at No. 5 singles. Concluding the day was Leonora Slatnick (Austin, Texas) who upended Jessica DeCarlos.
In doubles, Milchutskey and Slatnick beat Chernyshova and DeCarlos, 8-4.
The Scarlet Knights take on BIG EAST rival Georgetown on Sunday, Feb. 7. The match starts at 10 a.m.
