
RU Places Ninth at UC Spring Invitational

CRYSTAL RIVER, FL (March 27, 2010) - The Rutgers women's golf team placed ninth with a 939 (315-309-315) team total at the 18-team UC Spring Invitational, played Friday and Saturday at Elks Run Golf Course. Freshman Brittany Weddell (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) led the Scarlet Knights, carding a 233 (77-77-79) on the par 72, 6,032-yard course to place tied for 25th in the 100-player field.
Weddell was plus-one in par five scoring in the 54-hole event. Two rounds were played on Friday, with the third and final round contested on Saturday.
Sophomore Lizzy Carl (Mendota Heights, Minn.) also played well, shooting a 234 (79-76-79) to finish tied for 28th. She registered 37 pars.
Sophomore Kristina Lee (Haddonfield, N.J.), who improved in each round of the event, had the Scarlet Knights' top tally on Saturday, posting a 76 to register a 235 (81-78-76) total. She finished tied for 33rd.
Juniors Jeanne Waters (West Sayville, N.Y.) and Daley Owens (Taylorsville, Utah) rounded-out the team scorecard. Waters finished tied for 53rd with a 240 (81-78-81), while Owens placed tied for 75th with a 249 (78-88-83).
Illinois won the Invitational, hosted by Cincinnati, with an 893. Stetson placed second, 12 strokes off the lead with a 905, while Montana finished in the show position at 920. Stetson's Alex Buelow captured individual medalist honors with an even par 216.
Rutgers, under the leadership of Director of Golf Maura Waters-Ballard, returns to the links at the Georgetown Hoya Invitational in Beallsville, Md., March 29-30. RESULTS
