Rutgers Tennis Upends Connecticut, 6-1

STORRS, Conn. (March 31, 2010) – Notching its fourth-straight BIG EAST win, the Rutgers tennis team defeated Connecticut, 6-1, Wednesday. The Scarlet Knights were led by junior Amy Zhang (Plano, Texas) and sophomore Jennifer Holzberg (Easton, Conn.), who notched their fifth-consecutive win as a pair, defeating UConn’s Kelley LoRusso and Katie Moritz, 8-1.
“This was a great win over a good BIG EAST team,” said Rutgers head coach Benjamin Bucca. “The team is playing extremely well, and we look forward to our next match against in-state rival Seton Hall.”
Zhang added to her team-best 11-3 record at No. 1 singles, defeating Connecticut ace LoRusso. Leonora Slatnick (Austin, Texas) also notched her 11th win, defeating Abby McKeon (6-2, 5-7, 6-3).
At No. 4 singles, Maryana Milchutskey (Holmdel, N.J.) earned the victory (6-2, 6-1).
The Scarlet Knights continue BIG EAST play Tuesday, April 6, traveling to Seton Hall at 2 p.m.
