
Scarlet Knights in First Place at Hartford Invitational

WEST HARTFORD, CT (April 12, 2010) -The Rutgers women's golf team is in first place with a 310 score after the opening round of the annual Hartford Hawks Invitational, played Monday at Rockledge Golf Course. Four Scarlet Knights enter Tuesday's final round in the top eleven, including freshman Brittany Weddell (Buzzards Bay, Mass.), who leads the 65-player field after carding a two-over 74 on Monday.
Junior Jeanne Waters (West Sayville, N.Y.), coming off a fourth place finish at the Hoya Invitational, also played well on the par 72, 5,801-yard course. She shot 77 and is tied for second place.
A trio of sophomores - Lizzy Carl (Mendota Heights, Minn.), Kristina Lee (Haddonfield, N.J.) and Elisa Mateer (Marmora, N.J.) - comprise the remainder of the team scorecard. Carl is tied for eighth with a 79, Lee is tied for eleventh with an 80 and Mateer is tied for 18th with an 82.
The Scarlet Knights are one of two teams in the 11-team field with all five competitors in the top 20. Second place St. John's is the other. The Red Storm is three strokes off the pace with a 313.
The second round will begin, with a shotgun start, at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday. RESULTS
