Rutgers Tennis Upends St. John's, 5-2

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (April 15, 2010) – Rutgers tennis (12-7, 6-3) defeated St. John’s Thursday, April 15 at the RU Tennis Complex by a score of 5-2.
“This was a strong win against a great BIG EAST team,” said head coach Ben Bucca. “We are looking forward to our final home match of the year against West Virginia. We are excited to give Katherine (Arlak), Caitlin (Baker) and Christine (Tran) a memorable Senior Day.”
Junior Amy Zhang (Plano, Texas) and sophomore Jennifer Holzberg (Easton, Conn.) started the day off with a doubles win (8-4) over Ece Firat and Jenny Yonkus of St. John’s. The Scarlet Knights swept doubles play, as senior Katherine Arlak (Leonia, N.J.) and sophomore Leonora Slatnick (Austin, Texas) notched a 8-5 victory at the No. 2 spot and Caitlin Baker (Altoona, Pa.) paired with Maryana Milchutskey (Holmdel, N.J.) for an 8-2 win in the third spot.
Zhang earned her team leading 15thwin at No. 1 singles with a sweep of Ira Aleksova. Holzberg would not be denied at the No. 2 spot, handily defeating Joanna Zwirbulis, 6-1, 6-4. Milchutskey earned her 12thvictory of the season, upending Yonnkus in the fourth slot.
The Scarlet Knights finish off their season Saturday, April 17 with a match-up against BIG EAST foe West Virginia at the RU Tennis Complex. Action starts at noon.
