RU Places Fourth at Rehoboth Beach Invitational

REHOBOTH BEACH, DE (April 5, 2010) - The Rutgers men's golf team placed fourth with a 596 (297-299) total at the 11-team Rehoboth Beach Invitational, played Monday at Kings Creek Country Club. Junior Chris Frame (Woodstock, Ill.) carded a five-over 147 (72-75) on the par 71, 6,480-yard course to lead the Scarlet Knights and place eighth in the 69-player field.
"Chris has been playing really well as of late," said men's golf coach Jason Bataille. "He is really beginning to emerge as a leader. The team has continued to build on the momentum we generated at the start of the spring season."
Senior James Arbes (Westfield, N.J.) also turned-in a top 10 finish to spark RU. He shot a second round 72 to finish ninth with a 149 total.
A trio of seniors comprised the rest of the Scarlet scorecard. Ben Bershad (Titusville, N.J.) carded a 152 (75-77) to place tied for 17th. Team captain Jordan Gibbs (Princeton, N.J.) shot 154 (73-81) to finish tied for 24th. Jimmy Hilaire (Fishkill, N.Y.) registered a 156 (81-75) to place tied for 27th.
Maryland captured first place with a 579 (289-290) team effort. Tournament host Penn was second with a 581 (293-288), while Delaware was third at 584 (291-293).
Delaware's Justin Martinson won individual medalist honors. He shot a 133 (67-66) to finish nine under par, eight strokes ahead of teammate Greg Matthias and Maryland's John Popeck.
Rutgers returns to the links April 10-11 at the Princeton (N.J.) Invitational. Last season, the Scarlet Knights won the Invitational and Arbes earned individual medalist honors at Springdale Golf Club. RESULTS
