MANHASSET, N.Y. (August 16, 2010) –Sophomore tight end D.C. Jefferson (Winter Haven, Fla.) has been named to the watch list for the John Mackey Award, given annually to the nation’s premier tight end. Jefferson is one of only four sophomores on the list.
The Florida native has only played the position for one year after switching from quarterback to tight end in preseason camp in 2009.
The 6-6, 258-pound tight end is slated to start the season for the Scarlet Knights. In 2009, he played in 12 games, including 10 starts and caught five passes for 108 yards.
Rutgers opens the season Thursday, Sept. 2 vs. Norfolk State. Kickoff from Rutgers Stadium is set for 7:30 p.m. with live coverage on ESPN3.com and the Rutgers Radio Network.
