Waters Leads RU to Third Place Finish at Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. (September 12, 2010) - Rutgers senior team captain Jeanne Waters (West Sayville, N.Y.) finished tied for the lead on Sunday at the 54-hole Bucknell Invitational to help the Scarlet Knights to a third place finish with a 929 (306-310-313) total at the 18-team tournament. Waters, who carded a 221 (71-78-72) for the weekend, succumbed in a four hole playoff to place second overall in the 90-player field.
"It was a great start to the fall season," said Rutgers Director of Golf Maura Waters-Ballard. "I'm very excited about the play we received from Jeanne. I think it's a sign of good things to come from her this season."
Waters was a tournament-best one under par in par five scoring and had team bests of seven birdies and 33 pars. She carded a 72 in cool and damp conditions with a light mist falling on Sunday. It tied for the second-best round of the day behind individual medalist Katie Jurenovich, who shot a 70 competing on her home course for Bucknell.
Junior Lizzy Carl (Mendota Heights, Minn.)also performed well on the par 70, 6,006-yard course and finished tied for 14th with a 231 (78-71-82) effort. She was plus-five in par four scoring to lead the tournament in that category.
Sophomores Brittany Weddell (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) and Karen Cash (Allendale, N.J.) finished 36th and tied for 37th, respectively. Weddell carded a 242 (82-79-81) and Cash, competing in her first event for the Scarlet Knights, shot a 243 (75-82-86.). Senior Daley Owens (Taylorsville, Utah) rounded-out the RU scorecard with a 251 (87-86-78) to place tied for 52nd.
Host Bucknell won the tournament with a 903 (303-304-296), 19 strokes better than second place William & Mary.
