
Lefeged to Play in 2011 Under Armour Senior Bowl

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (January 21, 2011) -Rutgers senior safety Joe Lefeged (Germantown, Md.) has accepted an invitation to play in the 2011 Under Armour Senior Bowl. The Senior Bowl will be played on January 29 at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala. Kickoff is at 4:00 p.m. (EST). The game and its practice sessions will be televised live by the NFL Network.
Lefeged was a Second Team All-BIG EAST selection for the Scarlet Knights in 2010. The Germantown, Md., native was a duel threat for Rutgers—finishing second on the team in tackles (84) from his strong safety spot and breaking the school record for kickoff return yards in a season (948) in 2010. He wrapped up his career with 238 tackles, seven sacks and two interceptions. He also tallied 1,304 career kickoff return yards— fifth-most in school history.
Lefeged captured the Homer Hazel Trophy and the MVP of Rutgers' special teams at the team's annual awards banquet in December. He registered 243 career tackles, putting a stamp on his standout RU career with a career-best 11 stops at West Virginia in his final career game. The senior was second on the team with 84 tackles, including 3.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks from his defensive backfield position. He was named a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, recognizing the top defensive back in college football. The safety completed his career with two interceptions and a team-best 16 pass breakups.
