
Rutgers Third after Opening Round of Lehigh Invitational

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Rutgers women’s golf team is in third place with a 320 score after the first round of the eight-team Lehigh Invitational, played Saturday at Saucon Valley Country Club. Freshman Kortnie Maxoutopoulis (Pleasanton, Calif.) carded a 75 to pace RU and is seventh in the 42-player field.
The entire RU squad is among the top 20 competitors entering day two. Senior team captain Lizzy Carl (Mendota Heights, Minn.) and juniors Brittany Weddell (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) and Karen Cash (Allendale, N.J.) all shot 81 and are tied for 16th. Senior Elisa Mateer (Marmora, N.J.) posted an 82 and is tied for 19th on the par 72, 6,005-yard course.
Seton Hall leads the tournament with a 305 score, while Brown is only four strokes back in second place with a 309. There is a three-way tie atop the leaderboard, as Fairleigh Dickinson’s Esther Park, Brown’s Stephanie Hsieh and Seton Hall’s Hanna Basalone all shot 73 on Saturday.
The second and final round begins with a 9 a.m. shotgun start Sunday morning.
