
Rutgers Places 10th at Rainbow Wahine Invitational

Kapolei, Hawaii (November 2, 2011) - The Rutgers women's golf team placed 10th with a 938 (323-303-312) team score at the inaugural Rainbow Wahine Invitational, played Tuesday and Wednesday at Kapolei Golf Course. RU freshman Kortnie Maxoutopoulis (Pleasanton, Calif.) carded a 229 (78-78-73) to place tied for 27th in the 66-player field against some of the nation's top collegiate programs.
Junior Brittany Weddell (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) and senior team captain Lizzy Carl (Mendota Heights, Minn.) also performed well and placed among the top competitors. Weddell carded a 235 (81-73-81) and finished 43rd. Carl shot a 237 (83-76-78) and placed tied for 45th.
Senior Elisa Mateer (Marmora, N.J.) and junior Karen Cash (Allendale, N.J.) rounded-out the team scorecard. Mateer placed 54th with a 242 (81-76-85) and Cash, who improved every round, finished 61st with a 250 (88-82-80).
Senior Lauren Heiba (Bridgewater, N.J.), competing as an individual, turned-in a 264 (92-87-85) and was 64th on the par-72, 6,140-yard course.
UCLA, the nation's top-ranked program by Golfweek, ran away with the team title by 20 strokes, finishing with an 849 total. Bruin Lee Lopez captured the individual crown with a seven-under 209 and with all three rounds under par. Teammate Stephanie Konotied for second with San Jose State's Madeleine Ziegert and Washington's Sadena Parks at three-under 213.
Washington, the nation's 11th-rated program, placed second with an 869. Other competing teams were host Hawaii, Brigham Young, Cal State Fullerton, Florida International, Mercer, Sacramento State, San Jose State, Stanford and Utah Valley.
The tournament concluded the fall season for the Scarlet Knights.
