
Leal-Restrepo Named EAGL Rookie of the Week

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Feb. 15, 2011) – Rutgers freshman gymnast Luisa Leal-Restrepo (Cali, Colombia) was named the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Rookie of the Week, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.
Leal-Restrepo guided Rutgers to its highest team score since the 2004 season as the Scarlet Knights recorded a 193.525 in a victory at Cortland on Saturday. The freshman captured the vault, bars, floor exercise and all-around titles with several record-setting performances in the win. She tied the school record with her score of 9.875 on the vault and led the Scarlet Knights’ to a new school-record team score of 48.825 in the event. Leal-Restrepo posted a winning all-around score of 39.175 and recorded a career-best score of 9.900 to take home first place in the floor exercise. She captured the bars title with a score of 9.725 and placed third overall on the balance beam with a career-high score of 9.675 to give her four event titles and a top-three finish in every event.
It marked the second time this season a Scarlet Knight was recognized in the weekly honors. Sophomore Danielle D’Elia (Colts Neck, N.J.) was named the EAGL Specialist of the Week on Jan. 25.
Rutgers returns to action Friday as the Scarlet Knights travel to College Park, Md. for a quad-meet against Maryland, Penn State and William & Mary at 7 p.m.
