
Rutgers Opens Spring with Match Play Win Over Seton Hall

PORT ST. LUCIE, FL – The Rutgers women’s golf team opened its spring campaign by defeating BIG EAST and metro rival Seton Hall in match play on Saturday at the Ryder Course at PGA Village. The Scarlet Knights downed the Pirates 4.5 to 1.5 in a competition comprised of three matches worth two points each.
Senior team captain Jeanne Waters (West Sayville, N.Y.) and junior Lizzy Carl (Mendota Heights, Minn.) teamed-up to capture two points. Sophomores Brittany Weddell (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) and Karen Cash (Allendale, N.J.) paired to produce 1.5 points. Juniors Elisa Mateer (Marmora, N.J.) and Lauren Heiba (Bridgewater, N.J.) earned one point.
The Scarlet Knights, under the leadership of Director of Golf Maura Waters-Ballard, compete in their initial tournament of the spring season next weekend at the Siena College Homewood Suites Invitational, March 18-19, also in Port St. Lucie.
