
Rutgers 3rd after Opening Day of Homewood Suites Invitational

PORT ST. LUCIE, FL - The Rutgers women's golf team is in third place with a 320 (+32) team score after the opening round of the Homewood Suites Invitational, played Friday on the Wanamaker Course at PGA Village. Sophomore Brittany Weddell (Buzzards Bay, Mass,) paced the Scarlet Knights, carding a 77 to enter Saturday four strokes off the lead in sixth place.
Sophomore Karen Cash (Allendale, N.J.) also placed among the top 10 in the 49-player field, shooting a 78 to sit tied for 7th. Senior team captain Jeanne Waters (West Sayville, N.Y.) carded an 80 and is tied for 17th. Juniors Lauren Heiba (Bridgewater, N.J.) and Lizzy Carl (Mendota Heights, Minn.) comprised the rest of the team scorecard. Heiba is tied for 18thwith an 83 and Carl is tied for 25thwith an 85.
Stetson leads the nine team event with a 309, seven strokes better than second place Fairleigh Dickinson. Stetson's duo of Alex Buelow and Laren Cate pace the field after posting one-over 73's on Friday.
