
Rutgers Places Second at Homewood Suites Invitational

PORT ST. LUCIE, FL - The Rutgers women's golf team finished second with a 631 (320-311) team score at the Homewood Suites Invitational, played Friday and Saturday on the Wanamaker Course at PGA Village. Sophomore Brittany Weddell (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) paced the Scarlet Knights, carding a 154 (77-77) to place fifth in the 49-player field.
Senior Jeanne Waters (West Sayville, N.Y.) also turned-in a strong showing to place among the top 10. The team captain posted a 158 (80-78) to finish tied for ninth. Sophomore Karen Cash (Allendale, N.J.) was a single stroke behind Waters, carding a 159 (78-81) to place tied for 12th.
Juniors Lizzy Carl (Mendota Heights, Minn.) and Elisa Mateer (Marmora, N.J.) comprised the rest of the team scorecard. Carl placed tied for 20th with a 162 (85-77) and Mateer finished tied for 24th with a 165 (86-79). The Scarlet Knights were the only team in the tournament to have all five of its competitors place among the top 25.
Stetson won the nine team event with a 611 (309-302) total, 20 strokes ahead of RU and 23 strokes better than third place Fairleigh Dickinson. Stetson's Alex Buelow captured individual medalist honors with a one-under 145 (73-72).
The Scarlet Knights, under the leadership of Director of Golf Maura Waters-Ballard, return to the links next weekend (March 25-26) at the Cincinnati Spring Invitational in Crystal River, FL. RESULTS
