
Leal-Restrepo Named EAGL Rookie of the Week

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (March 8, 2011) - Rutgers freshman Luisa Leal-Restrepo (Cali, Colombia) was named the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Rookie of the Week, the group announced Tuesday.
"Luisa had another outstanding performance for us on Saturday," said head gymnastics coach Chrystal Chollet-Norton said. "She has performed at a high level all season. We are very proud of her accomplishment."
Leal-Restrepo led Rutgers to its highest score of the season and third-highest score in school history with a team total of 194.350 to place first in a five-team meet against Cornell, Southern Connecticut State, West Chester and Yale.
Leal-Restrepo captured the title in the all-around, floor exercise and vault and shared top honors on the bars in Saturday's five-team meet. She scored a 39.300 in the all-around, just .075 off her career-best and school-record score. Leal-Restrepo tied her career-high in the floor exercise with an event-winning score of 9.900. She scored a 9.850 to place first on the vault and a 9.825 to share top honors on the bars. Her score of 9.725 on the balance beam placed her fifth overall in the event.
Tuesday marked the third this season the freshman has been recognized by the league. Leal-Restrepo was named the EAGL Rookie of the Week on Feb. 15 and the EAGL Gymnast of the Week on March 1.
Rutgers returns to action Friday in Maryland with a tri-meet against Towson and Yale at 7 p.m.
