Rutgers Tennis Sweeps Connecticut, 7-0

Manasquan, N.J. (April 19, 2011) – The Rutgers tennis team (15-5, 7-3) downed Connecticut (7-9, 3-5) by a score of 7-0 Tuesday on Senior Day. Senior Amy Zhang (Plano, Texas) ended her RU career with a 29-0 home record, defeating Jennifer Learmonth at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-1.
RU has won 10 of its last 11 contests. Freshman Vanessa Petrini (Stamford, Conn.) upended Abbey McKeon at No. 5 singles to improve to 19-1 on the year. Maryana Milchutskey (Holmdel, N.J.) fought back from a 6-2 deficit in the first set to defeat Lauren Wilmarth (2-6, 6-2, 6-2).
Jen Holzberg (Easton, Conn.) downed Emily Herb in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3.
Zhang paired with Holzberg to take down Learmonth and Herb 8-6 at No. 1 doubles. Juniors Morgan Ivey (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) and Leonora Slatnick (Austin, Texas) notched the doubles point with a win over Alexa Gregory and McKeon.
The Scarlet Knights head to the BIG EAST Championship April 28-30 in South Bend, Ind. on the campus of Notre Dame.
