
Rutgers Places Seventh at Rain-Shortened Hoya Invitational

BEALLSVILLE, MD. (April 5, 2011) - Rutgers women's golf placed seventh with a 652 (325-327) score at the 17-team Hoya Invitational, played Monday at The Members Club at Four Streams. The third and final round of the event, scheduled for Tuesday, was cancelled due to poor weather, limiting the tournament to 36 holes.
Junior Lizzy Carl (Mendota Heights, Minn.) paced the Scarlet Knights, carding a 160 (78-82) to finish tied for 17th in the 89-player field. Carl was minus one in par five scoring and registered 22 pars.
Sophomore Brittany Weddell (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) and senior team captain Jeanne Waters (West Sayville, N.Y.) also performed well. Weddell shot 161 (80-81) to place tied for 22nd. Waters carded a 162 (80-82) to finish tied for 24th after posting 24 pars on Monday.
Junior Elisa Mateer (Marmora, N.J.) and sophomore Karen Cash (Allendale, N.J.) comprised the remainder of the team scorecard. Mateer tied for 52nd with a 169 (87-82) and Cash tied for 64th with at 172 (89-83).
Nova Southeastern won the tournament with a 623, four strokes better than second place Yale. NSE's Sandra Changkija captured individual medalist honors with a 146 (71-75).
The Scarlet Knights, under the leadership of Director of Golf Maura Waters-Ballard, return to the links for the BIG EAST Championships, April 17-19, in Palm Harbor, Fla. RESULTS
