Rutgers Men's Soccer Announces 2011 Regular Season Schedule
Jul 11 | Men's Soccer
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (July 11, 2011) – The Rutgers men’s soccer program has unveiled its 2011 regular season schedule, head coach Dan Donigan announced. The Scarlet Knights, in their second season under the direction of Donigan, will square off against five finalists from the 2010 NCAA Tournament in addition to an always challenging BIG EAST Conference schedule.
“This is our first true season, having had the opportunity to compile the schedule,” said Donigan. “I’m really excited about it. As we continue to move forward with our program, we want to do the same with our schedule. Good players want to play against quality opponents and this schedule is a reflection of that. We have to not only play these top caliber teams, but we also have to get results. These are NCAA Tournament teams and performing well against them will strengthen our position both in the region and nationally. Playing a tough nonconference schedule will only help prepare us for the BIG EAST which is one of the best conferences in the country.”
Each of the Scarlet Knights’ 10 home games can be seen live on the web via KnightVision Broadband. Verizon FiOS will also broadcast four games (vs. Pittsburgh, Adelphi, Cincinnati and Villanova) on a tape delay; however, the contest will be streamed live on ScarletKnights.com.
Rutgers will tune-up for the season with exhibition matches against two local foes Seton Hall (Aug. 16) and Lafayette (Aug. 20). The Scarlet Knights open the 2011 season hosting LaSalle (Aug. 26) at Yurcak Field.
RU will hit the road for the first time in 2011, participating in the 2011 Nike/Aaron Olitsky Memorial Soccer Classic on the campus of the College of Charleston. The Scarlet Knights will take on Furman (Sept. 2) followed by host College of Charleston (Sept. 4), which advanced to the second round of last year’s NCAA Tournament.
The Scarlet Knights return to Piscataway for a five-game homestand, opening with Drexel (Sept. 10). Rutgers will go up against Iona (Sept. 16) and square off against Indiana (Sept. 18), another NCAA qualifier.
The five-game stretch at home concludes with the BIG EAST opener against Pittsburgh (Sept. 23) and a non-conference matchup against Adelphi (Sept. 27). Rutgers will head to Milwaukee for a conference showdown against Marquette (Oct. 1) and then return east to face NCAA quarterfinalist Maryland (Oct. 4) on the road.
Rutgers will close out the month of October with its remaining BIG EAST regular season schedule. The Scarlet Knights host back-to-back home games against Cincinnati (Oct. 9) and Villanova (Oct. 12) before traveling to face DePaul (Oct. 15).
The Scarlet Knights will host another opponent, taking on Syracuse (Oct. 19), followed by a pair of road matches against Louisville (Oct. 22) and St. John’s (Oct. 26). RU will face USF (Oct. 30) it its regular-season home finale at Yurcak Field.
