PISCATAWAY, N.J. (July 28, 2011) – Rutgers head football coach Greg Schiano announced a few roster updates for the Scarlet Knights today. The NCAA approved a sixth-year for Edmond Laryea (Staten Island, N.Y.) this fall for the Scarlet Knights. Laryea missed the entire 2007 season and all but two games in 2010 due to injury.
Senior quarterback Steve Shimko (Ewing, N.J.) and junior running back Aaron Hayward (Carneys Point, N.J.) are unable to continue their playing career due to injury and will serve as student assistants with the football program in 2011. Shimko underwent shoulder surgery last year and was not able to return to competition while knee injuries ended Hayward’s career prematurely.
Junior tight end Junior Solice (Hackensack, N.J.) has also left the program and will look to transfer to another institution.
Players report for the opening of preseason camp Thursday, August 4 in Piscataway. The Scarlet Knights return to the practice field Friday, August 5.
