PISCATAWAY, N.J. (September 23, 2011) - Rutgers University gymnastics has released its 2012 schedule, as announced by first-year head coach Lou Levine on Friday. The Scarlet Knights will host five meets at the Livingston Recreation Center this season.
"I am really looking forward to a great first season," said Levine. "It is exciting to be able to host five home meets this season, including a few teams that we don't usually see on the schedule. We also have several road conference meets that will be a good way to test where we stand going into our conference championship meet."
The Levine era will officially begin on Jan. 7 when the Scarlet Knights host the University of New Hampshire - an East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) opponent - at the Livingston Gym.
Other home meets include Temple, Ursinus and Southern Connecticut (Jan. 28); Cortland and Brown (Feb. 11); Bridgeport, Air Force and Eastern Michigan (Feb. 25) and against Towson and West Chester (March 10) for Senior Day.
Rutgers will start the road portion of the schedule on Jan. 15 at West Virginia and continue on to Penn (Jan. 21) the next weekend. Other road trips will be to Pittsburgh (Feb. 4), Maryland (Feb. 17), Cornell (March 3) and William & Mary (March 16) with other teams slated to compete at those sites as well.
The highly anticipated EAGL Championships will be held at Pittsburgh on March 24, beginning at 2 p.m.
Teams in the EAGL include George Washington, Maryland, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Pittsburgh and West Virginia.
"The EAGL is always a tough conference," said Levine. "From the start of the season - right to the end - every meet counts. The first meet counts just as much as the last. It is all about getting the best score you can each time out."
NCAA Regionals are scheduled for April 7, with the National competition slated from April 20-22.
