
RU's Maxoutopoulis Places 4th at Princeton Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J. (September 25, 2011) - Rutgers freshman Kortnie Maxoutopoulis (Pleasanton, Calif.), playing in her second collegiate event, carded a 221 (76-71-74) to place fourth at the 62-player Princeton Invitational, played Saturday and Sunday at Springdale Golf Club. The rookie helped the Scarlet Knights to a ninth place finish with a 940 (316-308-316) team total at the 12 team event on the par 72 course.
In two career collegiate tournaments, Maxoutopoulis has earned 1st and 4th place finishes. She posted a 214 (70-73-71) to win the 80-player Bison Invitational, played September 11-12. She has a 72.5 stroke average.
Junior Brittany Weddell (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) also performed well at Springdale, carding a 232 (80-75-77) to place tied for 20th.
Junior Karen Cash (Allendale, N.J.) and seniors Lizzy Carl (Mendota Heights, Minn.) and Elisa Mateer (Marmora, N.J.) comprised the rest of the Scarlet scorecard. Cash placed 38th with a 242 (81-80-81), Carl finished tied for 44th with a 247 (79-82-86) and Mateer placed 61st with a 274 (95-95-84).
Harvard won the Invitational with a 906 (302-301-303), four strokes better than second place Brown (910). The Crimson also boasted the individual champion in Tiffany Lim, who won by six strokes with a three-under 213 (72-70-71).
Rutgers, under the leadership of Director of Golf Maura Waters-Ballard, returns to the links when it hosts the annual Rutgers Invitational, October 14-15, at the Rutgers Golf Course.
