MANASQUAN, N.J. (February 10, 2012) - The Rutgers University women's tennis team (3-0) completed yet another sweep, dominating the match to win 7-0 against Quinnipiac University (0-1) on Friday afternoon at the Atlantic Club. The match consisted of two doubles wins and six singles victories for RU, including one tiebreaker set where sophomore Stefania Balasa (East Brunswick, N.J.) defeated fourth singles opponent Ariana Laurie, 10-3, to win her match.
"We are off to a great start," said ninth-year head coach Ben Bucca. "It was another great team win today."
With the win, Rutgers improves its record to 3-0 and has shown a total team effort in each outing. On Friday, senior Morgan Ivey (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) paired with freshman Lindsay Balsamo (Wall, N.J.) to upend the Bobcats, 8-0, to help clinch the doubles point. The final doubles match was stopped once RU had clinched the second win in doubles.
Balsamo also took the lead in third singles, completing a 6-0, 6-0 shutout. Rutgers is now 18-0 in singles to start the season.
The Scarlet Knights confidently move forward in their season as they head to the road to compete against Princeton University in the Jadwin Gymnasium on Sunday, Feb. 12 at noon
