Rutgers Tennis Suffers First Defeat
Feb 12 | Women's Tennis
PRINCETON, N.J. (February 12, 2012) - Rutgers University women's tennis endured its first loss of the season of Sunday afternoon, dropping 7-0 at No. 51 Princeton inside Jadwin Gymnasium. The Scarlet Knights now stand at 3-1 through two weeks of the season.
"We started out playing very tentative tennis, as the match went on we grew stronger and stronger," said ninth-year head coach Ben Bucca. "The girls played hard and aggressive, but we just came up a little short today."
Rutgers' afternoon was highlighted by a second doubles win from the combination of sophomore Stefania Balasa (East Brunswick, N.J.) and freshman Noor Judeh (Potomac, Md.), 8-6. The pairing is now 3-0 in completed matches this season. Princeton (3-1) took the doubles point behind the efforts of two nationally-ranked duos.
In singles play, senior Morgan Ivey (Mount Pleasant, S.C) and Balasa each took their opponent to tiebreakers, but were unable to breakthrough for the victory as the Tigers claimed all six matches to clinch the win.
The Scarlet Knights return to action on Friday, Feb. 17 against Army at the Atlantic Club at 1 p.m. before opening the BIG EAST schedule at Syracuse on Feb. 19.
